The Sagrada Familia is the most famous work of Antonio Gaudi. It is a church consecrated to the Holy Family and to Saint Joseph, but it is again on construction. This building have 4 frontal towers that can be visited. Gaudi inspired himself to the nature in each of his monuments. You absolutely have to visit this one if you go to Barcelona.
The gothic quarter is very ancient and interesting to visit. Here you can see the rests of the old roman fortifications. Many tourists visit this place for its splendour.
This quarter is made of narrow and tortuous streets and there are many restaurants, bars, cafeterias. There are interesting places like Plaça Reial and the famous gothic cathedral.
The Real Square has an harmonious and regular structure and was built between 1840 and 1850. In the square there are many palms that remember the Mediterranean position of the city. The square is bordered by porches and is a very animates place.
Las Ramblas is an avenue length about 2 km, from Plaça de Catalunya to the port. The inhabitants of Barcelona and the tourists walking here until the late night and create an unique and happy atmosphere.
This avenue is bordered by trees, restaurants, cafeterias, flowers stands, shops, musicians and living statues.
The statue at the end of Las Ramblas pays tribute to Cristoforo Colombo and dominates the port of Barcelona. The iron column, tall 50 mt, bears the statue of the discoverer who indicates the sea with the finger.
An elevator can take you on the platform where you can enjoy a wonderful view on the port, on the mountain and on the whole city. For the tourists that want to walk, it is possible to stop at the Museum of the Marine or at the History Museum of Catalonia.
El Eixample is a modern architectural place. It is a quarter styled by the famous architect Cerdá, build to link the neighbouring villages to the old city of Barcelona. All the streets are perpendicular or parallel and have a very particular and unusual style. The monuments and the most interesting places are the ones realized by Gaudí.
Montjuïc is the centre of the Universal Exposition of Barcelona. The buildings on this hill are build in typical different Spanish styles.
The Poble Espanyol (“Spanish village”) was conceived by the architect Joseph Puig i Cadafalch for an universal exposition that took place in Barcelona in 1929.
It is an open air museum made by 117 buildings that represents the different architectural models of the different Spanish regions.
More than 40 craftsmen posse their laboratories in Poble Espanyol and the tourists can see them while they are on work. Moreover, there is a garden adorned by many sculptures.
The word “Borne” means “tournament” or “fighting place”. During the Middle Age this quarter represented a theatre where carried out tournaments, parades, festivals and the carnival. Nowadays there are many bars and modern restaurants. From the 1980 this quarter has considered the centre of the movement of the alternative art, with many shops and art and textile ateliers. There is also the Catalan gothic monument, without doubt the most important of Barcelona: the marvellous gothic church of Santa Maria del Mar.
Antoni Gaudí i Cornet was an architect and a great artist that adapted soon himself to the architectural Catalan movement and especially to the Modernism (typical of Barcelona).
This movement corresponds less or more to the Art Nouveau in France. In Barcelona there is the biggest number of Gaudí’s creations and works. Most of them can be visited like the Parc Güell, the Sagrada Familia, the Pedrera and Casa Batlló.
Our school is in the centre of Barcelona, at 5 minutes walk from Plaça de Catalunya, the main square of Barcelona.
